Agartala
The city of Agartala in Tripura is surrounded by pristine forests, beautiful valleys and roaring waterfalls. Once the power centre of mighty rulers, Agartala is known for spectacular palaces like the Ujjayanta Palace, stunning lakes and several beautiful temples. The huge, white Ujjayanta Palace, built in 1901 by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya, has Mughal-style gardens with fountains. It houses the Tripura Government Museum, which displays 9th century sculptures. The Ujjayanta Palace also houses the famous The Jagannath temple. Built by the Maharaja of Tripura of the Manikya Dynasty in the 19th century, the Jagannath temple is situated in the Ujjayanta Palace grounds and is dedicated to the Hindu Gods- Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra.

Unakoti is a district in Tripura which is famous for its rich cultural, sculptural and historical background. Unakoti literally means one less than a crore and it is said that these many rock cut carvings are available here. As per Hindu mythology, when Lord Shiva was going to Kashi along with one crore gods and goddesses he made a night halt at this location and asked them to wake up before sunset and leave. No one except Lord Shiva got up so he cursed them to turn into stone and left. As a result we have one less than a crore stone images and carvings at Unakoti. These carvings are located at a beautifully landscaped forest area with green vegetation all around which add to the beauty of the carvings.
