With a height of 1646m, this is the highest peak in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra. It is beautifully shaped and commands a fantastic view. The vastly spread out backwaters of Bhandardara attracts ones attention from the top.  According to the legend, Kalsu was a household help who worked on one condition that she should not be asked to clean pots or sweep. However, she was forced to do that by her employer. She did as she was told, but immediately climbed the hill and stayed there till her death. On the summit, the local people have built a temple in her memory and named it Kalsubai.

Did you know?

 The summit situated at an elevation of 5400 feet is the highest point in Maharashtra which earns it the much glorified title of the ‘Everest of Maharashtra’.

The mountain range lies within the Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wild-life Sanctuary.

Local legend says that kalsubai was a house maid residing in a nearby Indorey village.

A traditional prayer service is held every Tuesday and Thursday by a priest.

During the festival of Navratri a fair comes to be organized each year with many stalls being set up near the summit to provide Pooja materials to the devotees.

Touted as the most unusual wedding, on 28 December 2014, in the presence of close family members, a couple tied knot at the temple situated on the summit.

Kalsubai Peak is one of the most enjoyable trek in rainy season which offers view of Breathtaking lush green valleys, walk through clouds, roaring winds, Series of waterfalls it’s all packed into one. On Kalsubai Peak top you can see a small temple of Kalsubai. Ratangad, AMK (Alang-Madan-Kulang), Harishchandragad, Ahivant, etc. can be spotted from the Kalsubai Peak. Kalsubai Peak is a dream trek of every passionate trekker in Maharashtra to climb it at least once. The most popular trek route to Kalsubai is via the ladder route from Bari although there are other routes like grom Indorey the trek route is far more-steeper and tougher. Enroute Kalsubai Trek route from Bari there are three ladders that needs to be negotiated. The trek up at an average pace with intermitten stops will take about 3-4 hours however the trek can be completed in less than three hour. Camping in and around Kalsubai is possible, however the best option for camping would be by the Arthur lake near Bhandardara. Bari the base village is less than half an hour from Bhandardara with the rugged Sahyadri hills providing the perfect backdrop for the tranquil lake.

Day 01

 Depart for Igatpuri by a reserved bus at 03:00 pm from The Explorers office at Churchgate (There shall be a few pick up points en route).

Arrive at Igatpuri by 07:30 pm.

Dinner followed by a briefing on next day’s programme.

Overnight stay at Igatpuri.

Day 02

 Early wakeup call at 05:00 am.

After early breakfast depart for base village, Bari, by bus / jeeps.

Upon arrival at Bari, commence the trek at 07:00 am.

Reach the summit by 12 noon approx. Lunch enroute.

Start descending by 01:00 pm. Reach the base village by 04:00 pm and depart for Mumbai.
Arrive at Mumbai by 07:30 pm.

End of the Trekking Programme.

Far away from the chaos of the city, let’s enjoy the monsoon in the wilderness of Sahayadri hills.

Transport by reserved bus / mini bus

Stay in Igatpuri

All meals included starting with light refreshments in the afternoon on 25th June and ending with evening tea and snacks on 26th June.

The best way to soak in the beauty of pristine nature is by observing more and keeping the conversation to minimum, especially while trekking. That way you shall also be able to conserve your stamina.

Please note:

All our programmes are coordinated and led by seasoned adventure instructors who take care appropriate care of safety and security.

First aid / medicine box is available with the trek leader should there be a need.

The meals provided during the programme are simple but hygienic. While light refreshments in the morning and evening would typically have any of the following : Vada Pav / Sandwich / Burger / along with fruit drink , fruit and small bottle of water, lunch would either be provided in the village falling en route or lunch box shall be provided. Each participant is provided 2 liters of packaged drinking water.

List of things to carry : Good trekking shoes, Windcheater / Rainwear, Cap, Sunglasses, Sunscreen lotion, Towel, extra set of clothing, Camera, Personal medicines and a haversack to put in all the things to be carried….so that one has ones hands free while trekking.

Rs. 500/- out of the total amount payable is non refundable.

In case of cancellation done 2 days prior the trek we shall deduct 50% of the total amount payable shall be refundable.
